eSPARC joined with other senior power sector leaders, major industrial power users and other key stakeholders in IHS/Siemens invite-only discussion “Reducing Carbon Footprints: The Strategic Challenges Facing the U.S. Electrical Sector”.

IHS Chief Power Strategist Lawrence Makovich chaired the discussion which focused on the the strategic challenges to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions following the Paris Agreement at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 21) and roadmaps moving forward in light of recent U.S. regulatory developments.

Discussion topics for the meeting included:

  • Whether U.S. federal regulation of electric sector GHG emissions will take a back seat to a patchwork of state initiatives.
  • Strategies that are most likely to be used by electricity providers seeking to address their carbon footprint.
  • The potential for judicial rulings to affect the pace of change in the fuels and technologies employed to supply U.S. electricity demands.
  • Strategic risks industries face as they confront their carbon footprint.
